Love is in the Air ~ Happy Valentine's Day!

Kyle started his job at Crumbs in Malibu a few weeks ago. He went through training and finally got an apron and hat. He's learning how to make really great drinks too! He makes home-made sodas, coffees, cappuccinos, and hot chocolates. Not long ago, he brought me a white hot chocolate cupcake, and it was wonderful! Kyle's favorites so far are a caramel apple cupcake (filled with apple pie filling) and "The Elvis" - which is banana cream cheese frosting with a swirl of peanut butter.

Kyle and I had our first potluck at Simi Church of Christ. We took Mama's chicken casserole and sweet tea. We have some really good friends at Simi now. There are 4 young married couples (including us) that go there, and we've been hanging out with them a lot. We get together every Tuesday night for a Bible study, and sometimes we have lunch after church. One of the couples just had a baby girl named Abigail, and she's precious! We'll be sad to leave our Simi Church - we really love it there.

Kyle and I finally upgraded our living room tv. We got lucky because a friend of mine bought a new tv, and he needed to sell his old one. Since he needed to get rid of it, we got a REALLY good deal on it. Kyle got it for his birthday - just in time for the Superbowl.

And ... Zoe likes to watch the new tv ...

We had a birthday/superbowl party for Kyle, and we had 14 friends sitting around watching the new tv! We had a TON of food, and we still haven't gotten rid of all of it!

My class rankings were finally released (after last semester's grades were added), and I moved up one spot! My ultimate goal for law school would be to move up one more spot, but I'm very happy to be bumped up to where I am.

On Tuesday, I served as plaintiff's counsel in a case between the little pigs and the big bad wolf. I represented the two pigs who lost their home to the wolf's huffing and puffing. They sued the wolf to recover money for the houses they lost. We put this trial on each year for local elementary school children, and the kids serve as our jury! The wolf won this year - in fact, I haven't seen the pigs win during my three years at Pepperdine. The wolf's defense is that the pigs are bullies that are lying about him because he looks different.

On Wednesday, Condoleezza Rice visited Pepperdine. I went to hear her speak, and afterward Kyle and I met her during a book signing. She did a great job, even with some tough questions thrown at her.

On Thursday, Michelle, Micah and Eli arrived in the City of Angels. They stayed through Sunday morning, and we fit in a LOT of touristy activities while they were here. The weather was amazing during their visit! Micah visited Pepperdine undergrad and the law school on Friday. Micah went to Trial Team practice with me, and Eli went to Remedies. He said it was "the most boring class" he'd been to in his entire life! We may have minimized his chances of going to law school :) That night, we went to Santa Monica and ate dinner at Bubba Gumps on the pier. We had a lot of fun walking around the promenade and playing games/riding the ferris wheel and roller coaster on the pier.

On Saturday, we visited the Reagan Library. The library has been completely re-done and opened this week for the 100th anniversary of President Reagan's birthday.

After visiting the library, we ate lunch at In-N-Out Burger and headed to the beach and Hollywood that night. Eli swam in the pool at our apartment Saturday night, which was especially brave since it was about 55 degrees by the time he got in!

Oh, and the big news of this week is that we adopted a puppy on Thursday. His name is Kanan, and he is four months old. Kanan is the name of our favorite canyon leading into Malibu, and we wanted to name him after something in California. He has a really great disposition. He rarely barks, he is very playful, and he loves to cuddle. He wants to be friends with Zoe, but she's a little wary. She's not sure whether his energy is playfulness or agression yet, but she does like to poke at him when he's locked in his crate!

Kanan is our Valentine's Day present to each other, but we are still planning on doing something for dinner tonight! Happy Valentine's Day to all our friends and family! I hope it's wonderful :)
